Nudge: Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 November 2026
Summary
Nudge keeps only what it needs to send you gentle prompts. We do not sell your data, show ads or track you across other apps, and you can delete your account and everything linked to it from Settings.
- What we hold: your email, first name, birthday, an optional photo, what you save and log, your delivery times, and a notification address for your phone.
- Who sees it: your partner sees only what the app shares with them, described in "What your partner can see".
- Your control: edit your details, unlink from your partner, or delete your account at any time in Settings.
Who we are
Nudge: For Couples ("Nudge", "we", "us") is run by Ashley Gillam, an individual based in the United Kingdom. We are the controller of your personal data under UK data protection law. For any question or request about your data, write to privacy@s3apps.co.uk. For anything else, write to support@s3apps.co.uk.
What we collect
We collect the details you give the app and the activity you create in it. We do not collect your location, contacts, advertising identifier or health data.
| What | Examples | Why we need it |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a salted hash by our sign-in system. | To sign you in and let you recover your account |
| Profile | First name, birthday, how you like to receive gestures, and an optional profile photo | To personalise prompts and show you and your partner in the app |
| Relationship | Your anniversary, special dates you add, and the pairing code used to link with your partner | To power the shared Us page |
| What you save and log | Gestures you keep in your Hearth, wishes you write for your partner and when one comes true, notes, gestures you mark as done, and categories or gestures you create | To run Today, the Hearth, Wishes, Insights and your shared flame |
| Idea allowance | How many new ideas you have opened in your current batch, the size of that batch, and when the next one opens | To limit how many new ideas open at once and tell you when more arrive |
| Delivery settings | Your time zone and the time windows you choose | To send notifications when you want them |
| Notification address | A push token for your phone, and whether it is iOS or Android | To deliver notifications |
| Premium status | Whether you or your linked partner has premium, which is shared between you | To unlock premium features |
Some things stay on your phone only and are never sent to us: your theme choice, Hearth reminders you set, your Activity feed, which of today's ideas you have looked through, your setup checklist progress, and the name and birthday you type for a partner while you are not linked.
If you choose a profile photo, we receive only the picture you pick. The app crops it to a square, shrinks it and re-saves it, which removes hidden details such as location from the file. The app asks your phone for camera or photo access only when you use that feature.
How we use your data
We use your data to run Nudge and nothing else: to sign you in, build your daily prompts, deliver notifications at the times you choose, connect you with your partner, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your data, show ads, build advertising profiles or share your data with advertisers.
Under UK data protection law we rely on:
- Contract: to provide the app you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the service safe and working, for example limiting repeated failed attempts to join with a pairing code.
- Consent: for notifications and for camera or photo access, which you control in your phone's settings and can withdraw at any time.
What your partner can see
When you link with a partner, they can see your first name, birthday and profile photo, and the anniversary and special dates you share. Everything else you create is private to you unless the app says otherwise.
- Gestures: your partner never sees which gestures you tend. Their app receives only when one was tended and how much it adds to your shared flame, never its name, category or your notes.
- Wishes: a wish you write reaches your partner a few days later, among their own ideas, with no name on it. If they tend it, you are told a few days later inside the app. Your Hearth, saved items and notes stay private to you.
- Photo: your photo sits in private storage. Only you and your linked partner can open it, and access ends as soon as you unlink.
- Unlinking: each of you keeps your own saved items, logs and categories. Wishes not yet delivered are discarded, and your shared dates are held for 30 days in case you reconnect, then removed. You can delete the shared story at any time from Settings.
Service providers and where data goes
We use a small number of providers to run Nudge. They process data only on our instructions.
| Provider | What it does | Data it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts our database, sign-in and photo storage. Our project runs in London (eu-west-2). | All the data listed above |
| Expo, Apple and Google push services | Deliver notifications to your phone | Your push token and the notification text |
| Apple | Distributes the app through the App Store and TestFlight, and handles payment when subscriptions are available | Whatever Apple collects under its own privacy policy |
| Resend | Sends sign-up codes, password codes and account notices, from servers in Ireland (eu-west-1) | Your email address and the email it sends you |
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website and forwards emails you send to our support and privacy addresses | Your email address and what you write to us |
Notification text passes through the push services, so it is always general, such as "Something for today". It never names a gesture, a wish or anything from After Dark.
Expo and the push services can process data outside the UK and EEA, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account in Settings, we delete your account, profile, saved items, logs, categories, delivery settings, push token and photo straight away.
- Your partner: if you were linked, they are unlinked and keep their own data. Shared dates are held for 30 days and then removed.
- Backups: deleted data may remain in our hosting provider's encrypted backups for up to 7 days. After that it is overwritten.
- Security records: short-lived records, such as failed pairing attempts, are removed after about a week.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your data, to object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent. Most of this you can do yourself in the app: edit your details in Settings, and delete your account from Settings. For anything else, write to privacy@s3apps.co.uk. We reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local data protection authority.
If you live in California: we do not sell or share your personal information for advertising. You can ask to know, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and we will not treat you differently for doing so.
Children, security and changes
Nudge is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger, and we will delete it if we learn we have.
We protect your data with encrypted connections, database rules that let each person read only their own rows, private photo storage with short-lived links, and hashed passwords. No service is perfectly secure. If you find a problem, tell us at support@s3apps.co.uk.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
